ARTIST TALK with Nadija Mustapić & Toni Meštrović:
The social dimensions of de-industrialized urban structures

Time: Saturday 8 October 2016, 4.30 p.m.
Place: Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, Yrjönkatu 8–10 courtyard, Helsinki
Facebook-event

In a place where radical political and economic changes happen in a short span of time and transition represents the only slow but persistent continuity, Croatian artists Nadija Mustapić and Toni Meštrović reflect on the social dimensions of de-industrialized urban structures and identities in the environment where they live and work.

In this talk, the artists will present several examples of their work that touch on issues of identity loss, fall of unions and the working class, raise of nationalism, but also, individual and collective memory and pride in relation to urban micro-macro locations, which used to be dominant generators of economy. As artists, their work is based in experimental documentarism that expands through spatial installations into immersive and poetic experiences.

The talk is a part of The Quotas of Pride exhibition at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte.

Welcome!
