As with life, photography should also be understood holistically and not merely as a sum of its depictive elements. A photograph can have meanings and interpretations that cannot be explained in words. When a photograph is born, it has a world of its own. It is disconnected from its subject and is perfect in itself. I am interested in the emotional experience created by this new world, rather than a rational analysis of it.
My exhibition at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte consists of two parts: the newly finished series 10/10 and my earlier work After All. Although the parts are separate, they support each other and present a line in my thinking and work.
From the series 10/10 a portfolio has been made in a limited edition of ten numbered copies.
Natalia Kopkina (b. 1984, Leningrad) lives and works in Helsinki. She is an MA student at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki. 10/10 at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte is Kopkina’s first solo exhibition.
