{"id":25898,"date":"2026-04-24T15:07:34","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T12:07:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hippolyte.fi\/?p=25898"},"modified":"2026-04-24T15:08:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T12:08:56","slug":"the-2025-photobook-award-2025-is-granted-to-juliana-irene-smiths-book-good-feelings-every-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hippolyte.fi\/en\/2026\/04\/24\/the-2025-photobook-award-2025-is-granted-to-juliana-irene-smiths-book-good-feelings-every-day\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2025 Photobook Award 2025 is granted to Juliana Irene Smith\u2019s book Good Feelings Every Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Association of Photographic Artists<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Finnish Museum of Photography\u00a0<\/strong>have granted the Finnish Photobook Award 2025 to\u00a0<strong>Juliana Irene Smith&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>book\u00a0<strong><em>Good Feelings Every Day<\/em><\/strong><b><em>.<\/em><\/b>\u00a0The winner was be chosen by by<strong>\u00a0Emma Bowkett<\/strong>, photography director at FT Weekend Magazine, as well as a photography curator and assistant lecturer at the London College of Communication (LCC).<\/p>\n<p>Emma Bowkett, who selected the winner, says:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Taken from a sign on the wall of a karaoke bar, the title\u00a0<em>Good Feelings Every Day<\/em>, perfectly prepares us for the journey ahead. This is a book that knows exactly what it is doing from the very first page.<\/p>\n<p>The introduction belongs to Smith&#8217;s husband. It is touching and disarming, a quiet declaration of love that articulates what it means to be truly seen by another person&#8217;s gaze. He describes how her attention, through photography, allows him to feel valued, held. It is a framework that illuminates everything that follows, this is a book about the radical act of looking and being.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You can read Emma Bowkett\u2019s text in full <a href=\"https:\/\/photobookaward.fi\/en\/2025-winner\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"3358\" data-title=\"2025 winner\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The winner receives a prize worth 2,000 \u20ac, and the other finalists 500 \u20ac.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Juliana Irene Smith<\/strong> is a California-born, half Iranian artist who has been living and working in Finland for nearly a decade. The 112-page book consists of Smith&#8217;s photographs, drawings, and works on textiles, as well as texts written by Arvid van der Rijt, Sanna Lehtinen, and Saara Mahbouba.
